Canon Exploratory School (K-8th Grade)

Welcome to Canon Exploratory School! This is a wonderful school with amazing staff. My name is Jessi Hamilton and I’m excited to start this next chapter as principal. Here at CES, your students will grow in relationships with their teachers and peers while experiencing authentic learning opportunities. Please feel free to come in and visit us! A little about me: I’m married to my husband (Joel) of 17 years. We have three great children, Declyn, Abrielle and Kason. In our free time, we enjoy being outside- kayaking/paddle boarding, hiking and riding bikes. I’ve been in education for 17 years, teaching special education for 8 years and then being a case manager for 9 years. My career began at Florence Elementary School where I taught for 2 years. In 2006, I came to Canon City School District where I taught at (then) Lincoln Elementary for 6 years. I’ve had the privilege of beginning my case management position at CES the year it opened, serving here among other sites for the past 9 years. I absolutely love our philosophy and building culture, not just living it at school, but at home as well. As my two younger children attend CES, I also experience this school from the parent perspective. The dedicated staff embody the district’s four core beliefs. Our students are better for it. I have watched my own children grow their relationships with peers and teachers, develop increased tenacity and problem solving when presented with difficult tasks or situations, and understand how their choices impact their lives. 

Canon Exploratory School is a school of choice. Each student attending, is attending here on purpose, by choice. As I mentioned above, please take a few minutes to explore our website where you can learn more about our school history and founder Molly Merry. Our exploratory model started out as a single classroom housed within Lincoln School! We work in multi-age settings, utilizing Choice Theory as a framework for working with students and assisting them in learning themselves better- how they think, what they need and connecting those needs to the choices they make and then to the consequences of said choices. Throughout their educational experience we also offer opportunities for students to grow in and express themselves through multiple intelligences.
